Invitation to Read Student Writing
This year, a select group of Balboa Academy seniors are enrolled in a Freshman College English course offered through the Continuing Education Division of the University of San Diego. The course is being taught on our campus by Dr. Silvio Sirias. Students who complete the course successfully will receive three college credits.
Here’s the description of the course from the Bulletin of the University of San Diego.
English 100 Introduction to College Writing (3 Credit). A writing workshop to prepare students to take ENGL 121. This course provides instruction in the fundamentals of various modes of written expression, including sentence work, understanding the importance of audience, editing, and revision. Readings are selected from non-fictional prose works.
To underscore the importance of audience, each student has created a weblog. In these they will post all of their writings. We are proud to share with you our students’ first efforts.

Balboa Academy Online is not just a new school website, but a password protected space to be used by teachers and students at Balboa Academy to share teaching materials, class information and online activities. BA Online will be implemented in the next few weeks. Moodle is the software program that runs BA Online. It is used by many high schools and universities for online courses and to provide supplemental materials for school courses. We will use it initially to provide supplemental reading and homework assignments for our HS and JHS courses. Not all of the teachers will use BA Online, but those who do will direct you to the relevant spaces in BA Online for the modules they use. Click below for Frequently Asked Questions on Balboa Academy Online.
